EAST PALO ALTO, San Mateo County — October 23, 2026. California58 Local examined a public agency’s current records for this report. Descriptions of proposals, hearing schedules, permits and projected effects are not treated as completed actions or future guarantees.
What is on the ballot?
East Palo Alto’s official 2026 municipal election information identifies Measure CC as a City Council Term Limits Measure. The published question asks whether a person should be barred from serving more than three consecutive full terms. A partial term longer than two years would count as a full term for this purpose.
What does consecutive mean?
The proposal’s wording addresses consecutive full terms, a different concept from an absolute lifetime limit. Residents should read the actual legal text to understand any break-in-service provisions, treatment of preexisting terms or other transitional details. A short campaign description should not replace the ordinance’s operative language.
Why do local term limits matter?
Supporters may view term limits as a way to encourage turnover and widen electoral opportunity. Critics may worry about lost institutional experience and restrictions on voters’ ability to reelect a representative. Those are considerations, not facts about what the outcome will be in East Palo Alto.
Where are both perspectives published?
The city clerk’s 2026 election page includes arguments in favor of and against Measure CC, rebuttals where submitted, the proposed measure text and the impartial analysis. Voters should check those original documents before November 3. California58 does not endorse a yes or no vote.
